In the mad dash to get ready for baby, we finally got started on our Turkish tile project. Here' a little sneak peek!
Turkish tiles obviously have nothing to do with baby prep, but if we didn't do it now we wouldn't get to it for months..or even years :) We still have to finish the frame and figure out how on earth to hang this thing (it's HEAVY!), but I'm super excited at the progress. Updates soon!

We call this tipe of art "Çini" and in Turkey, Kütahya city is the famous city with ités Çini art and porcelain. Good project, congrats:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Bahar! Is Cini pronounced like a J or C? When we were visiting Istanbul I realized halfway through the trip that I was pronouncing a bunch of words wrong that started with C :) I loved everything about Turkey and I really hope I can go back someday and visit other parts of the country, it sounds like Kutahya would be worth a trip!
DeleteChini will sound as close as possible. Where did you purchase the tiles? In Turkey?
ReplyDeleteThanks Isil for the tip :) And yes we bought the tiles in Turkey, my husband and I went on an amazing vacation to Istanbul this past summer. We got them at the grand bazaar in Istanbul from a really great vendor, I think I still have his card around somewhere if you want the exact name! Compared to other vendors in the bazaar his prices were really good, although I'm not sure if prices would be even better in other parts of Turkey, you probably know better than I do :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to visit Turkey one of these days! The tiles are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteEid Mubarak to you. :)
You'll love it! I'm already dying to go back soon inshaAllah :) Eid Mubarak to you as well :)
DeleteEid mubarak! Itried to get better deal while I was in Istanbul in August but no luck. I was trying to get a larger piece for our kitchen but then i thought about bringing back with me in my luggage. I couldn't risk it. I would like to get the vendor info and would stop by at his shop next time.
ReplyDeleteOoooh--la-la indeed! Can't wait to see where you put it dear!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I sell these tiles straight from Turkey if anyone is interested. I am from Toronto.
